Fishing Report

February 26, 2009

Well we got about 3 inches of snow today and now it sounds like it is going to be cold the next couple of days. Sounds like the southern part of the state really got dumped on.

We really need some warm weather and I think that would help stabilize the fishing. We get a warm day or two and then another cold spell. The bigger perch were coming up in about 10 feet of water, but now with the snow and cold again, things have been slow today.

Well, it can only get better, right? We have plenty of ice and seems like getting around on the lakes isn't a problem, so that's a good thing.

Hang in there, with some warmer weather, perch and crappy should both start to turn on.

See you out on the lake.

Good fishing!

Fishing Report

February 20, 2009

Cass Lake and Pike Bay are still producing some perch and walleye. You have to be mobile and pick through the perch and the walleye are biting light and seem to be hitting in a 45 minute slot just before dark. I'd work that 12 to 18 feet of water and see what it produces.

Eel pout is going on out on Leech Lake this weekend. It's fun just to drive through and check out all the different fish houses out on the lake. A good time is had by all!

Haven't heard too much on the crappie bite, but the crappie fishermen are pretty closed mouthed and I guess you can't blame them for that. It is suppose to warm up next week, so I would think that the perch and panfish bite should start to pick up.

Hope to see you out on the lake.

Fishing Report

February 11, 2009

Cass Lake Winter Fishing Challenge has come and gone. We had great weather and a better turnout than ever. We look forward to this event growing bigger and better next year.

Pat Murphy of Brainerd won the $2,000 first place cash prize with a 3.94 pound northern he caught 10 minutes before the contest ended. 6 $500 raffle prizes were awarded to Tony Morris, Case Howard, Mary Ausk, Mark Wolters , Tomy Hegland and Scott Pemberton. Other cash prizes went to Anthony Vetsch, $1,500 for 10th place; Selena Breno Raisch, age 12, $1,000 for 20th place; Erick Hoglund, $1,000 for 30th place; and Reece Norenberg, age 10, $1,500 for 40th place. There were also 57 other prizes awarded, worth $100 or more in value. Congratulations to all!

Perch are still biting, with a walleye here and there. There is water on the lake, but we have plenty of ice and it sounds like it will be cooling off starting Thursday this week, so things will be freezing up again.

I am going to try to do some rental ice houses next winter, so let me know if any of you might be interested.

Stop by when your in the area. Hope to see you on the ice.

Good fishing.

Fishing Report

We are looking forward to another successful tournament that will showcase our great fishery and community. Saturday is just a couple days off and we have been working hard to get everything ready and in place. It looks like it will be a great day! Lots of fun will be had by all.

Last years tournament was won by Mike Justice with a 3.14 pound northern that was landed with about an hour left in the tournament.

Sounds like we will be having nice weather for the next several days, so fishing should be only getting better.

Hope to see lots of you out on the lake this weekend.

Good fishing.

Fishing Report

Beautiful weekend, but now a couple days of cold again. Sounds like it is suppose to start warming up on Wednesday and be real nice for the weekend. Everyone is getting ready for the fishing contest on Saturday. We will be going down to Strikemaster and other businesses to gather prizes for Saturday. There will be 50 or more prizes worth at least $100, plus all the money prizes. There will be food on the ice and portable are allowed. There will be an area plowed for the contest as well as for parking on the ice.

Friday night after the rules meeting at the Legion, the Fire Department is having a fish fry and Saturday after the fishing contest, the gun range is having a chili feed at the Legion.

We will be selling tickets right up until the contest starts. It will be a good time for all!

Hope to see you there.
