Fishing Report

December 31, 2010

We got a good 10 inches of snow last night, so today was spent plowing. County snow plows were out early this morning, so the highways are all in good shape. Sounds like we are going to get some more snow yet tonight, so I am planning to do more plowing again tomorrow.

Fishing has slowed down some, with this front coming through. It just takes a little longer to get a meal of fish. Quite a few people are spending their New Year's weekend out in their fishing shacks.

We wish you all a safe and happy New Year!

See you out on the ice.

Fishing Report

December 26, 2010

Hope you all had a safe, happy Christmas holiday. It was nice to spend some time with the family. It's always fun watching the kids open up presents. We have a venison roast for dinner and in the afternoon, we got two sleeper houses pulled out on the ice on Allen's Bay. The ice is about 16 inches out there.

The walleye are active just after dark in about 19 feet of water and perch are still hanging in about 12 feet. If your getting small perch, you might want to try up a little shallower.

The sun was shining today and it was just great to get out and enjoy some time in the old fish shack!

Sounds like the weather will be nice the next few days. We wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year coming up this weedend!

See you out on the ice!

Fishing Report

Decembe 23, 2010

Cass Lake and Pike Bay are producing some walleye. Mainly an evening bite and some nice perch on Pike Bay in about 12 feet of water. You have to pick through them, but you can get your limit of perch over that 10 inch range.

We have decided to change our hours for this holiday weekend. Friday will still be 7AM to 4 PM, but we will be open from 7AM to 11AM on Saturday, Christmas Day. We have had quite a few people asking if we would be open and that will still give us the afternoon to spend some time with our family and enjoy the Christmas holiday.

Again, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Well the race is on! There are houses and vehicles going out on Pike Bay, Cass Lake and Big Wolf. Average ice is 13 to 17 inches. Fishing is a little slow, but no one is complaining and I think we all are glad to get out and do some fishing!

We will be closing at 4PM on Christmas Eve day and will be closed on Christmas Day. We wish all our friends and family a safe and blessed Christmas Holiday!

Ice Fishing

December 17, 2010

Fishing has been pretty good the last couple of days. I was out on the lake yesterday with my plow truck. Ice is around 13 inches, but as always, use caution. One spot can be different then the other. Houses are going out today and minnows are going out the door. It is good to see the people come in and hear the cash register ring again. That spell between deer hunting and hard water can be a slow time.

Walleye and perch are biting on several area lakes and guys have had some luck in some of my spear houses, with the northerns. All in all everybody is glad to get out and do some fishing.

See you on the ice!

Ice Fishing

December 14, 2010

It is slowly starting to warm up. At least the sun has been out the last couple of days.

They have been picking up some walleye out on Cass Lake. Allen's Bay has 10 inches of ice, but again you have to always be careful. We are going to give it a few more days before going out with any vehicles.

Haven't heard too much about the perch yet. The weekend is suppose to be warmer, so fishing should be improving.

I am having a fish fry tonight for some guys who had rented my spear houses the last couple of days. Fishing out on the ice, food and friends, what more can we ask for.

See you out on the ice.

Ice Fishing

December 12, 2010

The guys in my rental spear houses have been getting some nice northerns. Things were slow today, I think because of the cold spell that arrived. Sounds like Wednesday it will warm up some, so I expect fish to run again. We are going out with 4 wheelers and snowmobiles, no vehicles yet. Ice is getting better each day, but you still have to be careful.

I have been working on one of my angling houses, putting in new carpet, one burner cook stove and stereo. When I'm not on the lake, I've been working on my houses in my garage. Keeps me busy. Ice fishing season seems to go so quickly, we have to make each day count.

See you on the ice!

Spear Houses Out!

Today I got 3 of my spear houses set up on the lake. Ice is about 5 inches thick. Always remember to be careful. Ice is never a sure thing.

There are portables going out on south landing on Pike Bay. I am hearing the ice is around 6 inches there. This cold weather is making ice each day. If you might be interested in renting a fish house, give me a call at the store, 218-335-6800, or call my cellphone, 218-766-2926.

Ice Report

December 3, 2010

We had a couple of groups of guys going out spearing on Winnie today. The way it sounds, the water by Third River is still pretty cloudy.

I am going to try to get a couple of my spear houses out tomorrow. We have our decoy minnows in now and we also have cisco's, which are an excellent northern bait.

I heard ice out on Pike Bay is about 3 to 4 inches . Sounds like you can walk out, but you want to watch where you are going. I guess that goes for all the lakes right now. Give it another week and things should be really looking up.

With all the snow we have gotten, ice conditions are not the best. I am going to wait a couple of days and then see if I can get a couple of my spear houses out. There are some guys spearing up on Third River, but not much happening on the other area lakes. Lets see what a couple of days will do.

Ice Report

November 30, 2010

We got about 3 to 4 inches of snow yesterday. I hope it doesn't do too much damage to the ice we had on the area lakes. Today is cold and windy and it sounds like it is going to stay cold for the rest of the week. That will definitely help the ice conditions.

I am going to see about getting a couple of my spear houses ready and maybe out on the lake tomorrow, if all goes well.

I will keep you posted.

Have a great day.

Ice Report

November 28, 2010

Here is what we have found out regarding the ice conditions:

McArdles Resort on Winnie are reporting 4 to 5 inches on the south shore, with a couple houses out there.

Tamarack Lodge on the northeast shore of Winnie has about 3 to 4 inches at the end of their docks.

Break on the Lake Resort on Allen's Bay has about 2 inches of ice.

Oak Point Resort on Leech Lake has about 5 inches off the shore.

Generally, the feeling is that in another week, we hope to have enough ice to start venturing out there. We will try to keep you up to date.

We did have a couple of guys in to get some minnows and they were goint to try to venture out on some of the smaller lakes. We also had a couple of guys who did some spearing on Third River Flowage. They said there was about 2 inches of ice, the water was cloudy and they didn't see any fish.

We all get so anxious. Just remember to be safe.

Deer Hunting Report

November 22,2010

The winner of the big buck contest is Melissa Yuenger, 219 lb buck and the winner of the big doe is Bob Headbird , 136 lb doe. Congratulations! Our registration was down this year. What deer we seen were pretty nice, but we didn't see the amount that we had last year.

We are getting pounded with snow this afternoon. We must have a good 6 inches already. I am going to be going home and getting the snow plow ready to go.

Our little ponds have iced over and the biggest majority of Midge Lake is froze, which is usually one of the first small lakes to freeze over. If your thinking about booking for ice fishing, give me a call on my cellphone 218-766-2926, or you can leave a message at the store also 218-335-6800. Deer Hunting Report

November 14, 2010

We got about 3 inches of snow yesterday. That should be good for tracking deer. Our deer registration has been down this year. I suppose now that you can register on your cellphone this year and also the fact that in our area you can only get one buck, that has made the difference.

The biggest buck in our contest is 219lbs, shot by Melissa Y. and our biggest doe is l25lbs, shot by Allen P. We still have one week left in the contest. Deer have to be brought in and weighed by 6PM on Sunday, November 21st.

Deer Hunting Opener

November 9, 2010

Well, weather was great this weekend. We had hunters going out hunting in the morning, doing some fishing mid-day and then back out in the woods for the evening hunt. The guys who went out fishing, said this was some of the best fishing they have had all summer.

The count for the deer registered seems to be down this year. Saturday was kind of windy and the deer didn't seem to move, and the weather has been so warm too. It is suppose to cool down this weekend and maybe the deer will be more on the move.

The biggest buck registered for our contest, is Gabe Haaland's at 195#. Biggest doe weighs in at 117#, Ryan Baird.

Have a safe and successful hunt!

Don't forget to stop in before 6PM Friday night and register for your Big Buck and Big Doe contest.

We have still had a few guys coming in for minnows. Most of the docks have been pulled for the season, but with the weather so nice, some are hunting and fishing both. What more could you ask for.

October 28, 2010

It was nice to see the sun come out this afternoon and the wind went down. It is still cool out and a jacket feels really good.

We got lots of rain the last couple of days, but no white stuff. Seems like that went to the Duluth area.

We have gotten a few calls and we have some fishermen coming up this weekend. Weather should be pretty good, just a little on the cool side. Hopefully the fish will be co-operating too. I imagine there will be some guys checking out their deer hunting areas .

I have started to get some calls on my fish house rentals. I am getting kind of anxious for hard water! That will come soon enough though.

Have a good weekend.

Another great day! I just can't believe what fantastic weather we have been having.

Full moon tonight, no wind and the lakes look like mirrors. It should be a great night for those big walleyes to bite. Cass has still been producing walleye in about that 40 foot range during the day and on Pike Bay they have been fishing deep also, about 70 feet. Hope you can get out and enjoy these last couple of days. We all know it's coming to an end.

We have been gearing up for our hunting season, but with this weather, fishing has been a plus and everyone who can get up in this area, really wants to enjoy every last day of it!

Faith in Action Raffle

Just a reminder that the big Faith in Action raffle will be coming to an end soon. This is a really worth while fund raiser. People helping people get to doctor appointments, doing yard work, building ramps and whatever else someone might need done.

The drawing will be November 10th and there have been only 107 tickets sold, as of yesterday. The first prize is a 4 wheeler and trailer and $2,000 cash. The tickets are $100 each and all of the money goes back into giving those who need it, a helping hand.

I hope the raffle will be a success for Faith in Action, so they can keep lending that helping hand to those who need it. My sister's family has needed their help and support, so this is something near and dear to our hearts.

Thanks to you all.

Fishing Report

October 16, 2010

When the sun is shining, the days have been really nice. Nights are getting cool though. My sister and I tried to sit out in front of Froggy's today, but didn't last too long!

We have been plugging along, trying to get our inventory done. It is a boring job, but thanks to the Old Toad, my sister, Mitz and my grandson, Mia, we have gotten most of it done this week. Dick will finish up in the back room for us. Froggy will be getting back from beet hauling just in time to miss the inventory counting. Bet he will really feel bad!

There were quite a few people out and about the last couple of days and fishing has been good. With the days still so nice, everyone is anxious to get out, do some fishing and hunting and get the fall chores done.

Fall is my favorite time of year, but I do miss all our friends and family we get to see during our busy summer season.

Deer hunting will be starting before you know it. Don't forget to sign up for our Big Buck and Big Doe contest.

Thanks to all for your business again this summer and we hope to see you during hunting season or for sure, when the lakes freeze over and ice fishing starts up.

The beet haul is some long hours for Froggy, but he and his dad have always enjoyed truck driving too. We sure will be glad to have him back home and at the store.

Have a good weekend everyone. Stop by and see us when your in the area.

Walleye and perch have really been biting. On Cass they are working 18 to 25 feet during the day and then off the weed lines in the evening. Jig and minnow are doing the trick. Rainbows have been the minnow of choice. We do have spot tail shiners in now also.

Froggy is still hauling beets, but we are hoping that he will be back in a couple of days, depending on the weather. Sure will be good to have him back!

This will be a great weekend to get out on the lake, enjoy the fishing and this great Minnesota weather. Don't forget to stop in and say Hi when your in the area.

What a beautiful day! Sun is shining and the leaves on the trees are just really something to see. Hope you all get a chance to enjoy each day of this weather for as long as it lasts.

Froggy is hauling beets for a couple of weeks, so this is Mama Froggy reporting in!

The Cystic Fibrosis tournament was a success, lots of really nice walleye were caught and released and the weather couldn't have been better.

Walleye and perch are still biting on Cass. Minnows seem to be the ticket.

The majority of our tourists are leaving now, closing up their cabins. The ones that are still around are enjoying the great weather, good fishing and some grouse hunting. We will take every day of this nice weather that we get!

Froggy has put out the Big Buck and Big Doe rifles for all to see. Biggest buck wins a 270 Rem. rifle and the biggest doe wins a 243 Rem. rifle. Second prizes are a Buck & Son fillet knife. Entry fee is $5.00 each and contest runs through rifle season, November 6th through 2 1st I believe.

Sepember 21, 2010

Fall is definitely in the air. Leaves are turning on the trees and we have had several weather fronts coming through, giving us rain every couple of days.

Fishing has been pretty good. Better for some then others. Still working breaks and bars around 25 feet during the day and the shad raps and rapajas in the evening off the weed lines.

There is a walleye tournament on Leech this weekend and don't forget the Cystic Fibrosis Tournament from Break on the Lake on October 2nd.

There are still a few bear being registered, but count seems to be down for us this year. Grouse hunters are out now, so I'm sure bear won't be roaming around as much any more and according to the Bear Center up in Ely, the bear are selecting their dens already.

Water temperatures are in the mid 60's and water levels are high with all the rain we have had. There should be some good fall fishing yet to come. This had been an awesome summer for Cass Lake and Winnie, as far as the fishing goes.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy Labor Day weekend. Fall is in the air and the water temps are going down. I would guess water temps should be in the mid 60's by next week. Sunny and very little wind made it a good day to be out doing just about anything.

I don't know where the summer went. Me and my father-in-law each got our bear the other night. Average size and should be good eating.

Because of all the windy days we have been having, there hasn't been a whole lot of fishermen out and about. The fish are there, but the winds have been making it really difficult to get out to that favorite spot.

Winnie will be busy with a pro tournament Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Guys pre-fishing have been boating some nice fish, but they are really getting pounded by the winds. We wish all the contestants good fishing and a good and safe contest.

With the cooler weather coming the next few days, we got in some creek chubs, red tails, rainbows and river mix minnows today. We are hoping everyone will be able to get out this holiday weedend and enjoy some fishing.

Bear hunting also opens up tomorrow and I will be going out and see if I can get lucky. I am hoping my father-in-law will be able to get his first bear this year.

Ice Out

April 2, 2010

Ice is out on Midge and Little Wolf Lakes. Today is another windy day. I will check a few of the bigger lakes tomorrow. I bet by Monday the ice will be all gone.

Wanted to wish all of you a Happy Easter!

Fishing Report

March 28, 2010

Landings are opening up and ice is pretty black and honeycomb. With the weather man calling for sunny days and temps in the 60's, everyone will be anxious to get out the boats and give them a try out on open water.

The winter went really fast. Thanks to all of you for stopping by at Froggy's. We are looking forward to seeing you all this summer. I am hoping for a nice warm opening weekend this spring.

See you out on the water. Good fishing!

Fishing Report

March 24, 2010

Ice fishing is coming to an end. I saw one guy going out on Pike Bay with a sled and a bucket today. He went off the right end off the box factory. Right out in front is not very good. I guess Winnie is done for going out on. I didn 't get a chance to check out the south end of Pike Bay, but I would think that might be your best bet for going out yet. That week with warm temps and rain really did a number on the ice.

Sounds like after this week temps will be in the 50's. I guess if it's going to start getting bad ice, lets get it done, so we can get out the boats and start thinking opening fishing!

Hope to see you out on the water. Have a good one.

Fishing Report

March 18, 2010

Looks like perch fishing has picked up and there are quite a few crappy minnows going out of the store. I wouldn't recommend driving out on the lake any more. Most guys are either walking or using their 4 wheelers. It was another warm, windy day today, but sounds like the weather is going to be cooler for the next several days.

Hope to see you out on the lake.

Fishing Report

March 13, 2010

We had the kids perch derby today, but with all the water on the lakes, the Chamber just held it at the Cass Lake Information Center. Kids still had a really good time.

Guys were picking up perch this weekend on Cass Lake and Pike Bay, but with the warm temperatures and all the rain we had this week landings are getting kind of tough. Guess it will be kind of a day to day thing now. Maybe we will have an early ice out and can think about getting the boats out on the lakes.

I got all my rental fish houses off the lakes the middle of the week.

Good fishing!

Fishing Report

February 28, 2010

Well, we're at another close of walleye, northern fishing. Where has the time gone! This winter fishing was mostly hit and miss on all area lakes. You had to be mobile and pick through what you got.

Now with some warmer and longer days, the perch bite has picked up. Hopefully we'll still have a couple weeks of good fishing still left for this season. Weather was great this weekend and guys coming into the store have been picking up fish.

Hope you will get a chance to get out and do some ice fishing yet before the winter season comes to a final end. Take care.

Hope to see you out on the ice.

Fishing Report

February 17, 2010

Well the big Fishing Challenge tournament was a success out on Cass Lake. Mike Isaacson was the big winner of $2,000 cash for his 1 lb walleye. There were about 600 people out for the tournament. It was really a great day and lots of fun had by all. The Chamber gave out over $10,000 in cash and prizes. Next year should be even bigger and better.

With the wind we had the last couple of days, I have been busy plowing the major roads out on Pike Bay, Allen's Bay and Big Wolf, where I have my fish house rentals. Getting around is good and we have plenty of ice.

They are picking up some nice walleye mornings and evenings, just before dark. Perch are there too. Pick through for those bigger ones. Weather has been great. I was out on Pike Bay today and there were guys sitting out on their buckets, enjoying the nice sunshine.

Hope to see you out on the lake!

Fishing Report

February 9. 2010

Fishing has continued to be about the same for the last couple of weeks. They are still getting walleye just before dark and picking through on the perch. I talked to Four Seasons Resort on Winnie yesterday and they said about the same thing. They are getting some walleye at the mouth of the river. Fishing is okay, but not as good as we would like to see it. Hopefully that is yet to come!

Don't forget the big Winter Challenge Fishing Contest out on Cass Lake this coming weekend, the 13th of February. Tickets can be purchased at Froggy's for $30.00 and they will be $35.00 out on the ice the day of the contest. They have $10,000 worth of cash prizes this year and at least 50 prizes worth at least $100.00 each; lots of augers, vexlars, fish houses and much more. This year again, they will be drawing to decide what place each prize goes in, at the Legion in Cass Lake on Friday night. The fire department will also be having their fish fry that evening. The Chamber will also have a couple of raffles going too. It will be a good time for all. Hope to see you there.

We will be plowing off the area the next couple of days. We will be going out from Sailstar Marina and also the Information Center. There will be guys shuttling out people with their gear and portables.

Prizes will be announced out on the lake, after the contest ends. The Palace Casino will also be giving out some prizes after the end of the contest. Contest goes from noon to 3PM. You will be able to get out on the lake after 10AM to get set up.

See you out on the lake!

Fishing Report

February 1, 2010

Fishing has picked up the last few days. I am hoping the trend will continue. Northern seem to be moving more on Big Wolf. There are some perch being caught out on Pike Bay and some walleye, with a morning and evening bite in about 15 to 25 feet of water, on Cass and Pike Bay. They are fishing perch in about 9 feet of water.

The big Fishing Challenge tournament will be out on Cass Lake on February 13th. Don't forget to get your tickets and mark your calendar for that day. It is always a good time and lots of good prizes.

My son, Ben went out Sunday afternoon and picked up his first walleye and some really nice perch out on Pike Bay. Thumbs up to you, Ben!

Weather has been decent, so I hope you will get a chance to get out on the ice and enjoy some time fishing.

See you out on the lake!

Fishing Report

January 21, 2010

Well here we are again. Not a whole lot more to report. Some walleye and perch on Pike Bay, but you have to pick through the perch. Fishing still seems to be spotty, a few here and there. Better then working!

We had a couple groups fishing on Winnie this weekend. One bunch of guys said they did really well and the other guys didn't have much luck. Sounds like they are picking up some perch out from McArdles and Denny's Resort.

Fishing should start to pick up. Hope to see you out on the lake.

Good fishing!

Fishing Report

January 11, 2010

Well, fishing has been slow and spotty. You can see the walleye swim past the bait and they are just not interested in biting. I am hoping a few days of warm weather will help to improve the bite.

Mark your calendars for the annual Cass Lake fishing contest on February 13th. You can check with the Cass Lake Chamber website to get more information. We will be selling tickets at the store again. They are $30. It is always a good time and lots of cash prizes and other fishing equipment.

Hope to see you out on the lake.

Good fishing!

Fishing Report

January 4, 2010

Hope everyone had a good New Year's weekend.

We are really having a cold spell of weather! We had some fishermen in that were doing well out on Cass Lake. They were picking up some walleye and nice perch. Pike Bay has been doing okay too.

Walleye were biting out on Center Bar on Winnie a couple days ago.

With the cold weather, it sure is making ice.

Hope to see you out on the ice.

Good fishing!
