Fishing Report

December 28, 2009

Well, everyone is getting plowed out. We got about 12 inches of snow over the weekend. I was out plowing on Allen's Bay and Pike Bay today. I will be putting out a couple more of my rental fish houses in the next day or two.

Perch seem to be biting and a few walleye here and there. It is suppose to be colder and clear the next few days and I think fishing will be picking up.

We want to wish all of our family and friends a safe and Happy New Year's! We will be open our regular hours this weekend, 7AM to 6PM. Stop in and say Hi!

Good fishing.

Fishing Report

December 9, 2009

We will be putting out some of our rental houses this weekend. With the really cold weather, we are making about on inch of ice a night. Big Wolf has about 3 inches of ice and Dixon Lake Resort on the north side of Winnie has about 4 inches and are putting out houses already.

Being we didn't get all that snow that went south and east of us, we are making some good ice on the area lakes. Caution should always be used though! It is still plenty early.

Hope to see you out on the lake.

Hunting Report

Well the firearm season has come and gone. We didn't see as many deer registered this year as we did in the past. Seems to be what we're hearing from all the area hunters.

Out Big Buck contest was won by Troy Vetsch with a 235# buck and the Big Doe contest went to Calvin Wittner with a 185# doe. Curt Fisher and Preston Gehrke took 2nd and 3rd place for the big buck and Shawn Hughs and Kathy Reischert took 2nd and 3rd for the big does. Congratulations to all the hunters!

We are finishing up our inventory for the year and getting anxious for hard water on the lakes! We will be closed Thanksgiving Day.

We wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Big Buck Contest

We seem to be registering about the same amount of deer as we had last opener. Weather has been nice - maybe too nice for the deer.

Our biggest buck so far goes 235 pounds, taken by Troy Vetsch. Second place right now is Preston Gehrke with a buck going 190 pounds. Calvin Wittner is in the lead for the biggest doe, going at l85 pounds. Contest goes until the 23rd, so we'll see what happens. Congratulations to the current leaders!

We wish everyone a safe and successful hunt.

October 26, 2009

With the cool, rainy weather, we have not seen a lot of guys going out on the lake. There have been a few grouse hunters out and about. All the leaves still haven't left the trees yet, so they are hard to spot.

We're getting geared up for opening firearm deer season on the 7th of November. Sign up for our biggest buck and biggest doe contest! We will be giving away a 30-06 rifle for the biggest buck and a 270 Marlin for the biggest doe. We also have second and third place prizes.

Remember to give me a call for Froggy's Fishhouse Rentals. I can answer your questions and get you set up for the ice fishing season.

Fishing Report

October 5, 2009

Fishing has been sort of slow in the area. We have had rain and cool weather the last several days and it sounds like there is more rain coming and cooler weather yet toward the end of the week.

Break on the Lake Resort had their cystic fibrosis tournament on Saturday and most of the guys did really well. It's a really a good cause and everyone has a good time.

There are a few gross hunters going out. There is still lots of cover so hunting is hard. It will improve in a couple weeks, when the leaves start falling off the trees. Weather was good for duck hunting and though there weren't a whole lot of ducks, everyone seemed to get a few.

We registered our first archery deer yesterday. Firearm season will be coming before we know it.

I got back from my Wyoming trip yesterday. We had another successful hunt and a good time was had by all.

Good hunting and fishing!

Fishing Report

Hi from Mama Froggy and the gang! Froggy is off in Wyoming bow hunting for whitetail deer and mule deer and then to the Dakotas for antelope on their way back to Minnesota.

Weather has been just great and the fish are biting. Several of the resorts are coming in for fathead minnows on a regular basis. Cass is producing walleye, perch and some real nice sunfish in Allen's Bay. They are working the walleye in about 18 feet of water and up shallow in the evening.

Hope you are all enjoying this nice Fall weather we are having. Stop by when you are in the area.

Sounds like the grouse hunters are hearing plenty of grouse in the woods, but with all the leaves they are hard to see. Give that a week or so and that should improve.

Good hunting and fishing from all of us at Froggys!

Fishing Report

September 10, 2009

The perch bite is on. Cass Lake, Winnie and Pike Bay all have been doing well. They are picking up some walleye too, starting out in that 16 to 18 foot range. Cedar Bar and North Cedar Bar on Cass are producing walleye. Shad raps and rapajas in the evening, along the weed lines seem to be working.

They have been getting some nice northern on Big Wolf, using a bobber and minnow.

Bear season is on. We have registered about 22 bear so far. My wife, shot her first bear on the opening day, with one shot. It weighed in at 190 pounds. She did the "Froggy Dance" out in the woods. She was really excited! My brother-in-law also got a big bear, weighing in at 384 pounds, field dressed. That was a beauty!

Fall seems to be settling in. Don't know where the summer went to. We have had really nice weather this last 10 days or so. The best fishing is yet to come.

Good luck to all the fishermen and you hunters out there.

Fishing Report

August 23, 2009

Walleye are biting on Cass Lake off the breaks and bars. Some guys have had good luck with creek chubs on snells in 30 to 40 feet of water. Some guys have also done well with crawlers and leeches in about l8 feet. Perch are going in about 4 to 7 feet on weed lines and breaks. Work the edge of the bars at night using crank baits.

Kitchi has also been producing some walleye in 10 to 12 feet, on the edge of the breaks.

Weather was just great today and sounds like it should be nice most of next week. Hope you can get out on the water and enjoy these nice days.

Good fishing!

Fishing Report

August 12, 2009

Well, we finally have summer this week! Sure is nice to have the warm temperatures and the sunshine.

Cass Lake has been producing walleye in the evenings trolling with raps, on the north end of the lake, in about 8 to 9 feet of water. They have also been picking up some nice perch south of Cedar Island. Northerns have been productive, using a sucker minnow and bobber.

Sucker Bay and Pine Point on Leech have also been producing some walleye and northerns. And if your looking for northerns, Big Wolf is always a lake to try.

With this warmer weather, the musky should be turning on and getting active.

Hope you can all get out and enjoy this nice weather!

Fishing Report

July 29, 2009

Most of the fishing action is currently on the north end of Cass Lake, with the best luck between 9:30PM and 12:30AM, trolling raps along the gravel bars.

I really recomment locating the fish on a graph first. The walleyes are constantly moving, not staying in one spot for more than two hours. Using leeches or crawlers in six to twelve feet will produce the best results.

Lake Winnie has been seeing an increase in perch and walleye activity and the muskie bite is starting. Northern are being caught using a sucker minnow and a bobber on the edge of a good weed line. For best results fish in nine feet of water about six and a half feet down.

Creek chubs and leeches have been working best on Pike Bay. Crawlers are also producing some bites. Perch are being caught on the east public landng along the edge of the weed lines.

Hope to see you out on the water!

Good fishing!

Fishing Report

July 9, 2009

Cass Lake has been producing a good bite since the warm weather moved in and the mayfly hatch is over. Best results are when using a lindy rig in eight to ten feet of water tipped with a night crawler or leech. The evening bite has been strong, trolling slowly in eight to twelve feet of water, using a shallow running shad rap on the break lines.

Northern action is also improving using a sucker minnow and bobber. Sunfish have also been caught on Cass Lake using a chunk of night crawler or wax worms or small leeches. Sunfish and northen are also doing well on Lake Andrusia and many small area lakes are starting to produce some bass.

Anglers have been doing well on Pike Bay, catching walleyes in eight to twelve feet of water using leeches on a blue and white or chartreuse jig.

Hope to see you out on the water.

Good fishing!

Fishing Report

June 17,2009

Fishing on Cass Lake has been getting better since the water is warming up. Temp is about 64 degrees. Walleyes are biting on the north end in about 25 to 30 feet of water during the day. Shiners are still the main bait of choice, but the leeches and night crawlers are going strong also. The late evening bite on rapalas started about a week ago. There has been some nice walleye caught at night trolling on North Cedar Bar and the Narrows. There has also been a few muskies caught, but more follows then strikes. With the water temps warming up, that will change in a hurry. Northern pike have been more aggresive and many families are having a good time with a minnow and a bobber. Crappie fishing has slowed down.

On Lake Andrusia walleye have been biting in l8 feet of water. Shiners or fathead on a jig works well on this lake. Work the break lines and drop offs. There is also a nice hump to work between the two rivers that produce wallye all summer long. This is a nice little lake to fish. It not only holds a good number of walleye, but it is also known for it's northern pike. Take a sucker minnow and sit on the outside of the weed line or the edge of the cabbage.

Walleye fishing on Pike Bay has been good also. Fish are being caught on the center bar or working the edge of the cabbage line in 15 to 20 feet of water. Perch are being caught in 6 to 12 feet of water with a jig and a fathead minnow.

Remember to stay safe and have fun fishing. Please practice catch and release for the future.

Hope to see you on the water!

Good fishing!

Fishing Report

June 12, 2009

Fishing is tremendous on Leech Lake right now. Leech is a great lake to head out on right now and it is providing a tremendour walleye bite. Remember that Leech does have a slot limit of 17-27 inches.

Cass Lake is also producing walleyes, especially on the north end. The bite is most productive in 12 feet of water using a jig and a shiner/fathead or leeches.

Ravens Point on Winnie has been phenomenal. The bite has been strong mainly in 12-14 feet of water.

Andrusia and Pike Bay have both been doing well and most area bays have been producing a steady crappie bite.

A consistent weather pattern will help bring about a stronger bite.

Hope to see you out on the water.

Good fishing!

Fishing Report

June 2, 2009

Sorry it has taken so long to get a fishing report up and going. We are in the process of changing computers at Froggys and us "Red Necks" don't know too much about computers, so I hope you will all hang in there with us.

Fishing is picking up on Cass Lake, Big Wolf and Andrusia. Jig and a minnow seems to be working in about 20 feet on the north shore of Cass and also Pike Bay. Leeches and crawlers are just starting to go out the door. Water temperature is about 58 degrees. Hope it will start warming up soon. Seems like were all anxious for some warm weather!

Leech Lake has been doing awsome. There was a tournament last weekend and another one again this weekend.

Everyone seems to be glad to put on their snuggies and get out on the water, even though temps aren't the warmest, yet. Don't forget your bug spray!

See you on the water!

Fishing Report

May 13, 2009

Many fishermen were anxious to get their lines wet and their boats moving last Saturday for the 2009 fishing opener.

Most anglers did really well. The majority of the anglers found success in working the mouths of the rivers using a jig and shiner presentation. Ssome anglers saw success using a fathead and a jig on Lake Andrusia.

The weather was cool and damp with a high temp near 50 degrees and little wind. As far as openers go, it was a typical one weather wise. As long as you dressed for the elements it was a fun time and the fishing will only get better in the next few weeks.

Good fishing!

We have a few fishermen going out, but all in all, things have been pretty quiet this week. There is still plenty of ice in the middle of the lakes, but you have to watch the landings.

I have seen lots of boats going up and down Highway 371 this week. Some guys are going up to the Rainy River and then others are getting their boats out of storage and getting them all ready for the opener; which isn't that far off!

We will be changing over to Spring inventory the middle of April. We are going to be closed on Easter Sunday. All of us here at Froggy's wish you a blessed Easter.

Fishing Report

April 3, 2009

Well last Monday night and Tuesday we got about 8 more inches of snow on the ground. Fishing has slowed down some after the new snow. It is a nice sunny day today. I heard of some jumbo perch being caught out on Winnie in about 12 feet of water just off the camp grounds on the west side. There are also some perch biting out on Shingobee Bay on Leech Lake .

Cass Lake and Pike Bay are getting some perch also, but you have to be mobile. There is plenty of ice yet, but you have to watch the landings and the best way to go is with your 4-wheeler.

With the sun shining today, it's nice to get out. I think everyone is getting tired of the long winter and the gray days.

It won't be long and we'll be thinking about getting the boats out!

Well, we've had lots of rain and even snow today. Not too many guys going out on the lakes and those that are, seem to be going out with 4 wheelers. With all the rain we've had, you really have to watch where your at, just in case water has opened up a hole on the lake. There are some crappies and nice perch being caught, but again, be careful.

We had a nice meal of crappies the other night, thanks to Allen Bonk from Hackensack! They were caught on that "No Name Lake!". Those crappy fishermen are all pretty tight lipped. Thanks Allen!

With the warm weather, the snow has really been melting and there has been lots of water on the ice. The last couple of days it's been cooler, but sounds like it will be warmer again on Saturday. There is still plenty of ice. Fishing should be good yet for a week or two. It all depends on Mother Nature!

With the warmer weather, guys have been hitting the smaller lakes looking for crappie. They are still picking up perch on Cass and Pike Bay. Hope you will get a chance to get out and give it a try. When it's warm enough you can stand out on the ice and fish, that's always a good time.

Sun is shining, so that does help some. I guess it is suppose to get cold tonight, but start warming up on Friday and be really nice for the weekend.

Perch have been biting good on Pike Bay and Cass Lake through the weekend. It has been quiet around the area the last couple of days, with the snow. Sounds like they have been getting some nice perch on Leech, around Shingobee Island and some crappie bite by Little Hardwoods.

February 26, 2009

Well we got about 3 inches of snow today and now it sounds like it is going to be cold the next couple of days. Sounds like the southern part of the state really got dumped on.

We really need some warm weather and I think that would help stabilize the fishing. We get a warm day or two and then another cold spell. The bigger perch were coming up in about 10 feet of water, but now with the snow and cold again, things have been slow today.

Well, it can only get better, right? We have plenty of ice and seems like getting around on the lakes isn't a problem, so that's a good thing.

Hang in there, with some warmer weather, perch and crappy should both start to turn on.

See you out on the lake.

Cass Lake and Pike Bay are still producing some perch and walleye. You have to be mobile and pick through the perch and the walleye are biting light and seem to be hitting in a 45 minute slot just before dark. I'd work that 12 to 18 feet of water and see what it produces.

Eel pout is going on out on Leech Lake this weekend. It's fun just to drive through and check out all the different fish houses out on the lake. A good time is had by all!

Haven't heard too much on the crappie bite, but the crappie fishermen are pretty closed mouthed and I guess you can't blame them for that. It is suppose to warm up next week, so I would think that the perch and panfish bite should start to pick up.

Hope to see you out on the lake.

There were also 57 other prizes awarded, worth $100 or more in value. Congratulations to all!

Perch are still biting, with a walleye here and there. There is water on the lake, but we have plenty of ice and it sounds like it will be cooling off starting Thursday this week, so things will be freezing up again.
