Ice Report

November 30, 2010

We got about 3 to 4 inches of snow yesterday. I hope it doesn't do too much damage to the ice we had on the area lakes. Today is cold and windy and it sounds like it is going to stay cold for the rest of the week. That will definitely help the ice conditions.

I am going to see about getting a couple of my spear houses ready and maybe out on the lake tomorrow, if all goes well.

I will keep you posted.

Have a great day.

Ice Report

November 28, 2010

Here is what we have found out regarding the ice conditions:

McArdles Resort on Winnie are reporting 4 to 5 inches on the south shore, with a couple houses out there.

Tamarack Lodge on the northeast shore of Winnie has about 3 to 4 inches at the end of their docks.

Break on the Lake Resort on Allen's Bay has about 2 inches of ice.

Oak Point Resort on Leech Lake has about 5 inches off the shore.

Generally, the feeling is that in another week, we hope to have enough ice to start venturing out there. We will try to keep you up to date.

We did have a couple of guys in to get some minnows and they were goint to try to venture out on some of the smaller lakes. We also had a couple of guys who did some spearing on Third River Flowage. They said there was about 2 inches of ice, the water was cloudy and they didn't see any fish.

We all get so anxious. Just remember to be safe.

Deer Hunting Report

November 22,2010

The winner of the big buck contest is Melissa Yuenger, 219 lb buck and the winner of the big doe is Bob Headbird , 136 lb doe. Congratulations! Our registration was down this year. What deer we seen were pretty nice, but we didn't see the amount that we had last year.

We are getting pounded with snow this afternoon. We must have a good 6 inches already. I am going to be going home and getting the snow plow ready to go.

Our little ponds have iced over and the biggest majority of Midge Lake is froze, which is usually one of the first small lakes to freeze over. If your thinking about booking for ice fishing, give me a call on my cellphone 218-766-2926, or you can leave a message at the store also 218-335-6800. Also, check out my website, Froggy's Fish House Rentals.com.

We will be closed Thursday, November 25th, for turkey day! All of us at Froggy's Sports, wish all of you a safe and happy Thanksgiving Day!

Deer Hunting Report

November 14, 2010

We got about 3 inches of snow yesterday. That should be good for tracking deer. Our deer registration has been down this year. I suppose now that you can register on your cellphone this year and also the fact that in our area you can only get one buck, that has made the difference.

The biggest buck in our contest is 219lbs, shot by Melissa Y. and our biggest doe is l25lbs, shot by Allen P. We still have one week left in the contest. Deer have to be brought in and weighed by 6PM on Sunday, November 21st.

Good hunting!

Deer Hunting Opener

November 9, 2010

Well, weather was great this weekend. We had hunters going out hunting in the morning, doing some fishing mid-day and then back out in the woods for the evening hunt. The guys who went out fishing, said this was some of the best fishing they have had all summer.

The count for the deer registered seems to be down this year. Saturday was kind of windy and the deer didn't seem to move, and the weather has been so warm too. It is suppose to cool down this weekend and maybe the deer will be more on the move.

The biggest buck registered for our contest, is Gabe Haaland's at 195#. Biggest doe weighs in at 117#, Ryan Baird.

Have a safe and successful hunt!

Deer Hunting Opener

November 3, 2010

Have been sighting in some firearms this week and putting on a few scopes. Sounds like the weather will be in the mid 40's this weekend. We hope you all have a safe and successful deer opener.

Don't forget to stop in before 6PM Friday night and register for your Big Buck and Big Doe contest.

We have still had a few guys coming in for minnows. Most of the docks have been pulled for the season, but with the weather so nice, some are hunting and fishing both. What more could you ask for.

Good hunting!
