Mike, from Anchorage, Alaska asked for an update on Froggy's hunting trip and duck hunting in the area. So here goes: Froggy and his buddy Troy each got 3 whitetail deer with their bows. They had one real cold night, when the heater wouldn't work in their tent. Guess they had to snuggle a little. What are buddies for! Froggy said he was glad to get home and sleep in his own bed.
Froggy had a mountain lion walk right under his stand one night. He said that didn't bother him; it was when it got dark and he had to leave the stand, that the hair stood up on his neck and he made a bee-line for the camp!
Elk were bugling in the field where the deer usually come out to feed; so they had to hike further up the mountain to where the deer were being chased. Troy's dad, the "Old Timer" also went along. He had just gotten out of the hospital about a month ago from a serious head injury. Froggy said he made it up to the top of the mountain. Way to go "Old Timer". You've come a long way in just a couple of months.
On the way through the Dakotas they had a successful rifle hunt for antelope. Froggy makes the best wild rice dish with mushrooms and antelope you have ever tasted. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
They found a little mexican restaurant along the way and Froggy said it was the best he had tasted since his honeymoon in Mexico.
All in all they had a great trip and their deer and antelope are being processed. Froggy made an l8 hour trip home, non-stop. He says he's not going to do that again. He was really wiped out.
Now to duck hunting. I had heard earlier that the ducks were scarce, but most of the groups that stopped in had fairly good luck. If you found the right spot, the ducks were plentiful.
We had the cystic fibrosis tournament too last weekend out of Break on the Lake. There was one walleye weighing in at a little over 6 lbs and one over 5 lbs. The first place winners came in with a catch just over 17 pounds.
It seemed to be a good weekend for duck hunting and fishing.
Take care, now. Stop in and see us when you can.
Hey, Mike, do you duck hunt around Anchorage? Keep in touch with us.
