Fishing continues to be doing well. Pike Bay especially has been producing walleye and perch the last couple of days.

Walleye, perch and northern fishing are all doing well. We have had several guys going out for crappy, but they are pretty closed liped as to whether they are biting or not.
Ice conditions are good and the weather has been great. Hope you can get out and enjoy the hard water fishing this winter. This has been a real treat, compared to last year's conditions.

Fishing Report

We continue to hear walleye and perch being caught. Walleye are shallow, about 6 to 8 feet. Froggy's rentals are picking up some nice northern also.
We are hearing ice to be about 12 to 14 inches thick. Some are driving out with smaller vehicles. Check your area before you venture out.
We want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday season. Jerimiah will be home from Fort Hood this Christmas, so we will have all the tadpoles here this year! Family and friends - what a great gift!
We will be closing at noon on Christmas Eve Day and will be closed Christmas Day.

Fishing Report

We are hearing some good fishing reports. Walleye and perch out on Pike Bay, Cass Lake and Leech. Nice walleye out on Andrusia and also getting some good size northern. One of Froggy's rental houses picked up a really nice northern yesterday, also. I believe it went around l3 pounds. Froggy posted a picture on Froggy's facebook.
Ice conditions are averaging around 12 inches. Some guys are reporting as much as 14 to 18 inches in areas. It's always a good idea to check the ice before you venture out. Snowmobiles and 4 wheelers are going out and an occasional light vehicle.

We are hearing some nice perch being caught and northern seem to be picking up too. With a good streak of weather coming in for the next 10 days or so, I would think fishing should be really going good. Froggy has been busy putting out his rental spear houses.
We got in golden shiners and also rainbow now. Hope you will be able to get out and enjoy this good ice and fishing.

Froggy is starting to put out a couple of spear houses. We had a couple of warm days last weekend, but we are now back to making ice weather. Everyone is starting to venture out. Be careful and make sure to check the ice as you go.

Ice Conditions
November 20, 2014
We are hearing about 4 inches of ice on Lake Thirteen and guys going out on Garfield also. One guy was going out by Tom's Harbor on Cass to try for some walleye, but Cass is still open in the middle. Steamboat is open yet, but someone said that it looked like Pike Bay had a layer of ice for as far as he could see. It is definitely making ice!
We are getting in some fresh bait today, and also some decoy minnows. Please remember to use caution, it is still early.

Ice Report

Little Wolf and Midge Lake are frozen over. Our bay on Big Wolf is also frozen. We're off to a good start. Just have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store for us this winter season.
We have all our inventory out and got a small order from Northland Tackle yesterday too.

Froggy's Sports For Sale

We have been trying to sell Froggy's on our own and now have decided to list it with a good friend of ours, Tomy Hegland, of Grimes Realty in Bemidji. The Old Toad and I are just getting worn out. Ideally, it would be nice to sell Froggy's and then be able to work there a couple days a week.
The asking price is $179,000, plus inventory. There is also the empty lot next to Froggy's that needs to have something built, to add additional income for the business. There is potential here for an enthusiastic buyer. If you might be interested, or know of anyone who is, give Grimes Realty a call. There number is 218 751 3123.

Deer Hunting
Deer opener was a windy, rainy day. This morning we woke up to a cool, crisp morning, with a couple of inches of snow and the sun is shining. I can't even describe it. This north country is just beautiful!
Reports we heard on deer hunting yesterday, was poor. I think with the rainy, windy day, the deer were laying low. I would think that today hunting should definitely be better.

What a beautiful Fall day! This is my favorite time of the year.
We have been hearing great fishing reports the last couple of days. Full moon seems to help. They are finding walleye in about 7 feet of water, using a jig and a minnow. Hope you can get out and enjoy the beautiful scenery and good fishing.

Fishing continues to be doing well, but the amount of fishermen in the area right now has really gone down. There are alot of campers moving around, some going into storage for the season and others going to the deer shack. I don't know where the summer has gone to.
Trees have peaked a few days ago and are now loosing their leaves. What a beautiful part of the country this is! We are hoping for a couple nice weeks, weather wise yet, for the month of October. There is still lots of good fishing to be done.
The Cystic Fibrosis Tournament was this last Saturday and there were some really nice walleye brought in off of Cass Lake. Minnows are the bait of choice.

Lots of minnows going out the door today. Everyone is trying to get out and enjoy this great weather, beautiful scenery and pick up a few fish for the frying pay to boot!
Everyone seems to be fishing a little shallower now, in that 12 to 15 foot range and definitely minnows are the bait of choice. Fishing has been okay, but the best is yet to come!

Seems like the cool front that came through has slowed down fishing. Walleye seem to be stacked out deeper, but are not real interested in biting.
There is the MWC walleye tournament September 12 through the l4th on the chain of lakes, so we have been busy trying to find enough redtails. Seems like as fast as we can get them in the store, they are out the door. We do have some really nice creek chubs, river mix and rainbows. Good luck to all the tournament fishermen.

Fishing continues to be doing alright. Some guys had real good luck the other day on the northeast side of Star Island. Northern seem to be kind of spotty. Good one day and not as good the next. Minnow bite seems to be definitely on.
Big Muskie Torunament this weekend on Leech, Cass and area lakes. Also, we have a big walleye tournament coming up the weekend of September 12 and 13th.
Weather has been good, kind of fall like. Hope you can get out and enjoy northern Minnesota and all the area lakes.

Fishing has slowed down the last couple of days, but with the cool weather we are having, I would think that by the weekend, it would pick up again.
We are out of leeches for the season, so if you can find some on your way up for the weekend, I would get them. We have crappy, fathead, light and heavy northern, river mix, redtail and creek chubs, for minnows; and we have plenty of crawlers.

Our friends from Monticello are up again this week. Once again the Pribyl's are getting the walleye. Chad likes to work that 20 to 25 feet. Most of the resorts are telling us that the guys are picking up walleye a little shallower, that 14 feet or so. Crawlers seem to be the key. Roger and Chad and the rest of the family have gone through 2 flats of crawlers and getting fish.
Northern seem to be a little slow, but we have quite a few guys going out and using the heavy northern suckers.

Faith in Action Concert

It seems like the summer is flying by. Fishing has been doing okay. Some days better then others. Bait of choice seems to be the crawlers right now, although we have had some guys saying that they were picking up some nice perch and a few walleye on minnows.
Continue to work the breaks and bars in that 10 to 18 feet. Cedar Bar and North Cedar Bar are always a good choice on Cass. Don't forget to bring out the shad raps and rapalas in the evening.

Faith in Action Concert
Remember the Faith in Action Concert coming up August 15th at 2:00 and 7:00PM. Faith in Action helps so many people with rides to doctors appointments, building ramps and doing yard work, just to mention a few things. Their volunteers are always there to serve people in need.

We woke up to fall type weather. Rainy and cool, temp in the 50's. Fishing has been okay. Would be better if we could get a few days of stable weather. Sounds like after this cool front passes, we should have a pretty good rest of the week.
We are still seeing alot of crawlers going out the door and those rapalas and shad raps are definitely the way to go towards evening. For the evening bite, you want to work 5 to 6 feet of water. Try Cedar Bar and North Cedar Bar on Cass Lake during the day in about 12 to 18 feet. Winnie has also been productive in that 8 to 10 foot range.

Crawlers are what seems to be working right now, in about 8 to 15 feet of water off the breaks and bars. They are not jumping in the boat, but everyone seems to be getting enough for a fish fry. Weather has been great this holiday weekend. Rain has held off until evening and hasn't completely ruined the day.

Crawlers are what seems to be working right now, in about 8 to 15 feet of water off the breaks and bars. They are not jumping in the boat, but everyone seems to be getting enough for a fish fry. Weather has been great this holiday weekend. Rain has held off until evening and hasn't completely ruined the day.

Fishing continues to be "OK". With a few days of nice weather ahead of us, things will continue to improve. There are still some minnows going out, but more and more crawlers and leeches.

Fishing Report

Fishing is still somewhat slow. They are finding walleye on Cass in about 10 to 16 feet, or so and we heard today that they were picking up some walleye on Leech in that 8 to 10 foot range. Weather pattern is still changing every couple of days.
We were busy today putting away a new load of invenory. We also got in our river mix minnows, creek chubs and some redtail minnows. We are gearing up for the big 4th of July holiday and are hoping that the weather will co-operate as well.

Water temp is rising, so shinners are coming to an end. We are seeing alot more leeches and crawlers being used. Fishing has been doing okay. It's just that you have to work between showers to find them! Shad raps and rapalas are working in the evening.

Fishing has slowed down some and with the rainy weather, there have not been as many guys going out. Water temps range in that upper 60 degrees. They are still using a jig and a shiner, but more and more crawlers and leeches seem to be the ticket.
Sounds like it should be a nice weekend, so we hope you will be able to get out and enjoy fishing and this great Minnesota country.

We are hearing some good fishing reports. Nice perch being caught on Pike Bay in about 9 feet of water on fathead minnows. Fishing has also been good out on Winnie and Cass. Reports coming from Leech are saying the fishing has been doing real well. Still using a jig and a minnow for the walleye, but we are seeing a turn over to crawlers and leeches. Also heard of a nice northern caught out on Cass yesterday.
Weather has been great and fishing is good! What more can we ask for.

Hope you all had a great Memorial Weekend. Spot tail shiners were flying out the door all weekend. Fishing was really good, jig and a shiner did the job. The weekend started out with the walleye holding in that 6 to 8 foot range, near the mouth of the rivers. With a couple warm days, they are finding them out a little deeper, 10 to 15 foot range. Both the weather and fishing were great this weekend.

Just wanted to let you know we did get some spot tail shiners in the store today. Not nearly as many as we would have hoped, but it will have to do until we can get 2 or 3 nice warm, sunny days. I'm sure they will go fast, but we wanted to let everyone know that we do have some.
Fishing seems to be doing alright, but we really need some steady warm weather.

Everyone is fishing the morths of the rivers and getting quite a few walleye. Some of them still have spawn in them. We do have spot tail shiners in now. With the cool weather we are having, I think they will be coming in slow yet. We will see.

We are hoping that ice will go out this afternoon on the big part of Cass Lake. It will be that close. Pike Bay, Andrusia and Big Wolf are open.
With the cold waters, shiners are not trapping right now. That is a day by day thing. Give us a call and we will let you know, when we get any.
We have fatheads, crappy, light and heavy northern minnows and will be getting some rainbow this afternoon. We also have crawlers, was worms and leeches will be coming in the door too this afternoon.

Midge Lake is open today and Little Wolf is about half open. The North bays on Andrusia and Big Wolf are open and we are hearing that Allen's Bay on Cass Lake is open also. Sounds like more wind and rain to come in the next couple of days, so that will surely help open up the lakes.

Temperatures range from med 40's to mid 30's at night, but with all the rain we are getting the last couple of days and wind, it really is helping open up the ice on the area lakes.
I am thinking that ice will be out by opener, but another 7 days will tell the story. We will keep you informed.

On the north end of the lakes, ice is out about 20 feet. We are hopeful that we will have open water for opener on May 10th! We have started putting out summer tackle. It has been a long winter and we are all looking forward to a good summer.

A few more guys going out now that the weather is improving. There is still plenty of ice and we have heard no one having trouble getting around on the area lakes. They are picking up perch. Have to pick through them, but we are hearing of some nice 8 to 10 inch perch being caught. The next couple of weeks should be good fishing.

Guys have been picking up some perch out on Pike Bay. There have been several fishermen going out on Winnie too. There is plenty of ice and now we are waiting to see how much snow "Mother Nature" brings our way this afernoon and evening. We have heard all the way from 3 inches up to l6 inches. I know it won't last long, but we really are getting anxious for some extended days of nice weather.
If you get a chance, come up and do some perch fishing. Lots of ice!

We got about 8 inches of wet, heavy snow yesterday. This has been a winter for the record books. Sounds like it will be cold now for a few days and then warm up the middle of next week. Guess we have to take it as it comes. Not too many people venturing out right now.

Weather pattern changes every couple of days. We get two days of warm weather and then it's back to a couple of days of cold weather again. Hopefully by the end of next week, the pattern will be on an up swing and stay in that direction.

Some of the snow is starting to melt and temps are warming up. Fishing has been slow. We are hearing the best results out on Pike Bay in about 9 to 13 feet. Another week of warmer weather should help. There is plenty of ice. Auger extensions are hard to find. We sold our last one we had at the store, yesterday. If you get a chance, get out and enjoy fishing out on the ice, while we still can!
The Old Toad was in the hospital for a few days and is back out now. His legs will be an ongoing issue for him. So, as the doctor says, we will take one day at a time! Sounds like good advise for just about anything.

The Old Toad is 70 years old today! I made him a chocolate cake and we may go out for supper tonight. See how the roads are and how he feels. By the end of the day, it's nice sometimes just to relax at home. HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU OLD TOAD1
Fishing has been good on Pike Bay and Cass Lake. There are several guys going out on Leech too. Fatheads are minnow of choice in about 13 to 15 feet of water. Getting some nice perch and walleye. Northern and walleye season ends this Sunday.
Walker has the big eel pout tournament this weekend.

Fishing has been doing okay on most area lakes. It's just been tough, with the cold, wind and snow. Roads have been plowed on most lakes now and everyone seems to be moving around okay. Park Rapids has their fishing contest this weekend and the Cass Lake Fishing Challenge will be February 8th on Cass Lake.

Fishing Report

Good news! Froggy has been out plowing roads on the north end of Cass Lake. Things will be opening up now and it sounds like a good weekend, weather wise. Now everybody will be able to get out and about and do some fishing!

Fishing Report
January 6, 2014
Cold, cold and more cold! Temp this morning was 30 below zero and then we have a windchill besides. Sounds like one more really cold day and then weather will start to moderate and sounds really nice for the coming weekend.
Store was really slow today, not many brave soles wanting to brave the cold and wind. Most of the guys are driving out now. Always use caution, ice is never really safe.
Hopefully we will have more to report on fishing in the next couple of days, when fishermen start going out again.

Fishing Report

I suppose you have heard the weather report. It has been so cold and now sounds like it will be even colder the next couple of days. Schools are going to be close state wide on Monday, because of the cold weather.
Froggy has a group of guys up for this weekend and has been busy getting houses opened and filling up more propane for heat. I will try to touch base with him tonight to see how the fishing has been today.
The Old Toad and I are trying to keep things going at the store. I have been spending time sitting by the stove, where it is nice and warm. It reminds me of when we were kids and used to get dressed by the oil burner stove in the morning.
Guys are starting to drive out on some of the lakes, but CAUTION should be used! There is still those slushy spots. I would definitely check out the area before you attempt to drive out there. It is just amazing how the snow insulates that ice, even with all this extreme cold weather we are having.
Everyone be safe and keep warm. Those old snuggies really feel good in this Minnesota weather!
